Personal Project

Giant X-Ring

3D PrintingSolidWorksCADProduct Design

My first real CAD project - I modelled the iconic St. Francis Xavier University class ring in SolidWorks, entirely self-taught. The geometry was difficult to recreate for a beginner so this was a challenging yet satisfying project.

I scaled the ring up 5x from its original size and printed it on an Artillery Sidewinder X1 3D printer. Each ring was sanded smooth and painted gold to create a convincing replica.

I created variants for the years 1987, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2023, giving them as personalized birthday gifts to family members who had also graduated STFX. This project sparked my love of CAD design and showed me that engineering tools could be used for creative, personal projects too.
